Under brilliant sunshine and across arid landscapes, the jojoba shrub quietly flourishes, drawing strength from deep roots that reach far beneath the desert floor.

Each season, female shrubs produce small acorn-like seeds that contain one of nature's most remarkable botanical treasures. Although commonly called an oil, jojoba is actually a liquid botanical wax—a unique gift that has earned a permanent place among our foundational ingredients.

Every handcrafted creation begins with respect for where each ingredient starts. For jojoba oil, that journey begins beneath the patient branches of the jojoba shrub.

Meet the Jojoba Shrub

The jojoba shrub (Simmondsia chinensis) is native to the deserts of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Perfectly adapted to life in harsh environments, it thrives in dry climates where intense heat and very little rainfall challenge most other plants.

Growing between 3 and 10 feet tall, the shrub develops silvery-green leaves that help conserve moisture while reflecting the desert sun. Male and female flowers grow on separate plants, and only the female shrubs produce the nut-like seeds from which jojoba oil is obtained.

Its extensive root system anchors the plant through years of drought, allowing it to survive—and even flourish—in conditions that would defeat many larger trees.

When the seeds have fully matured, they are carefully harvested and gently pressed to release their golden liquid wax. Because jojoba is naturally a liquid wax rather than a traditional vegetable oil, it possesses unique characteristics that have made it one of the most respected botanical ingredients in natural skincare.
